چکیده

In this paper we present a methodology followed to parallelize a weather forecasting code running operationally on a small Network of Workstations with real data sets. The 1D Eta/NMC model code was originally written in Fortran 77 and optimized for vector supercomputers. We describe the steps followed to parallelize the Eta/NMC-dust code. The examination of program workload gave important insights into bottlenecks of the Eta/NMC-dust code. The implementation of the model with MPI libraries on a MIMD platform, the data partitioning used and some implementation characteristics of the model are presented in the paper. We present the performance of the parallel implementation of the model in terms of the speedup gained on a number of processors.

A synoptic-climatology approach to increase the skill of numerical weather predictions over Iran

Simplifications used in regional climate models decrease the accuracy of the regional climate models. To overcome this deficiency, usually a statistical technique of MOS is used to improve the skill of gridded outputs of the Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) models. In this paper, an experimental synoptic-climatology based method has been used to calibrate, and decrease amount of errors in GFS...

Forecasting of Covid-19 cases based on prediction using artificial neural network curve fitting technique

Artificial neural network is considered one of the most efficient methods in processing huge data sets that can be analyzed computationally to reveal patterns, trends, prediction, forecasting etc. It has a great prospective in engineering as well as in medical applications. The present work employs artificial neural network-based curve fitting techniques in prediction and forecasting of the Cov...

Project Phoenix

The forecast process within an operational weather centre is based upon the analysis, diagnosis and prognosis of skilled meteorologists. To aid their efforts, the forecasters use a wide range of tools including weather satellites, radar, workstations, and numerical weather prediction (NWP) models. Tremendous gains in NWP performance over the past 2 decades has made this tool typically the most ...

Assessing the Capability of a Regional-Scale Weather Model to Simulate Extreme Precipitation Patterns and Flooding in Central Texas

A regional-scale weather model is used to determine the potential for flood forecasting based on modelpredicted rainfall. Extreme precipitation and flooding events are a significant concern in central Texas, due to both the high occurrence and severity of flooding in the area. However, many current regional prediction models do not provide sufficient accuracy at the watershed scale necessary fo...
